Error: Comparing .docx files/saving a comparison as .docx

  • Failed to compare documents. Unable to convert documents.
 
  • An error has occurred when attempting to save the Redline document. This error may be due to document corruption in the original and/or the modified document. Clean up procedures are recommended before attempting to save the Redline document. Your document has not been saved.

On March 24, 2014, Microsoft provided a Fix it solution to workaround a potential security issue with rich text files (RTF) -- (CVE-2014-1761). On April 8, 2014, Microsoft issued a security update addressing the vulnerabilities of the potential security issue, meaning that the Fix it solution is no longer required: https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/ms14-017

Installing the security update does not uninstall the Fix it solution. The Fix it solution has known compatibility issues with Workshare Compare, and if you downloaded it you may experience problems with:

Follow these steps:

To manually remove the Fix it solution:
  1. Ensure you have the Microsoft security update installed:
    1. If you have automatic updating enabled and configured to check online for updates from Microsoft Update, you will not need to take action.
    2. If you don't, check for updates from Microsoft Update and install the update manually.
For information about specific configuration options in automatic updating, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 294871
  1. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2949660
  2. Scroll down to the Fix it for me section.
  3. Under Disable this fix it, click Fix this problem.
