Workshare will no longer support TLS 1.0

For security reasons, Workshare will no longer support the TLS 1.0 protocol. The change is planned for the 20 August 2019 and customers using TLS 1.0 should take action ASAP to ensure uninterrupted service.

What’s changing?

When different systems (like a client and a server) exchange information, they need to share a common set of rules, called a protocol, so the information can be exchanged securely.

Workshare’s servers use a well-known protocol called Transport Layer Security (TLS), and we currently support TLS versions 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2.

TLS 1.0 is an old version with widely acknowledged security flaws. We’ve ensured Workshare’s applications are not vulnerable to any known security flaws.

Our next step is to disable TLS 1.0 from our infrastructure to ensure we’re providing our customers with the most robust technology available. Many other applications are doing the same, including Microsoft Office 365.

As of the 20 August 2019, Workshare will no longer support TLS 1.0. We will continue to support TLS 1.1 and 1.2.

Most Workshare customers will not be affected by this change. However, a minority of customers on these products may experience issues:
  • Workshare 9.5.1 (build 9.5.787.202) and below
  • Workshare desktop sync app 2.1 and below
  • Workshare Transact via a web browser
  • Workshare Connect via a browser
Note: Workshare Professional 9 is now known as Workshare 9.

Actions you can take ahead of time

Workshare 9.5.1 (build 9.5.787.202) and below

To continue with an uninterrupted service for Workshare 9.5.1 (build 9.5.787.202) and below, please do one of the following before 20 August 2019:
  1. Ensure you’ve applied the Windows update that was recommended in Microsoft Security Advisory 2960358
On May 13, 2014, Microsoft released an optional update which forces the use of later versions of TLS for all .NET applications, protecting you from the security flaws in TLS 1.0 on all .NET applications on your machine.

If you have this update installed, you will be able to continue using Workshare Professional, Compare and Protect without interruption.

If you have auto-updates for the Workshare desktop sync app turned off, you will need to update the app separately. See the steps for the Workshare desktop sync app below.
  1. Upgrade to the latest version of Workshare 9.5:
Get the latest version of Workshare 9.5.

Note: Workshare 9.5.2 (build 9.5.787.333) is the earliest version that provides the necessary changes. However, we would always recommend using the latest version of Workshare. If you are unsure which version of Workshare you have, please see this article.
